New discoveries about our brain - still the most complex structure we've so far come across in the known universe - are showing that it remains plastic throughout our lives, that it is mutable, flexible in its ability to grow new neurons (until recently thought to be impossible) and make new connections. This means that we can, and should, keep learning, challenging ourselves, whatever our age but particularly as we get older, to keep that grey matter dynamic, to force growth and thereby stay as active, healthy and happy.
