Opportunity, the Mars rover that has been trundling along for over 15 years has finally "died". I have to say I was actually really moved when I heard, I've been an avid follower of the intrepid little beast for all that time and, with the growth of the internet (and *whispers* Facebook groups) I have seen & heard sights & sounds I'd never have thought possible.
Sometimes us Humans manage wonderful things and, to me, Opportunity speaks of the truly amazing capabilities we have as a species: something that is often forgotten amid the doom and gloom of the everyday news and the bleak pronouncements we all ignore about the future.
The final message sent from Mission Control on its long journey to Mars received no reply. It was Billie Holliday. I'll be seeing you. The final verse sings out:
"I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be thinking of you"
